Sebastian Faro, MD PhD
Sebastian Faro MD, PhD, FACOG has practiced general obstetrics and gynecology for over 40 years. His areas of special interest have been pelvic reconstructive surgery and infectious diseases of obstetric and gynecologic patients. During his academic career, he has written and co-authored several books and published numerous peer review articles (150+) focused on infectious diseases.
His research has been concentrated on the vaginal bacteriology and its role in obstetrical and gynecologic infections, e.g., preterm premature rupture of amniotic membranes, septic abortion, postpartum endometritis. In addition, his research also included the role of the vaginal bacteriology in postoperative infections in the patient undergoing pelvic surgery.
Dr. Sebastian Faro has taught medical students and obstetric/gynecologic residents, as well as trained fellows in OB/GYN infectious diseases. He has given lectures at Grand Rounds at numerous medical institutions in the United States, Europe, Japan, and South America. He has served in various capacities including full Professor, Vice chairman, Chairman, acting Executive Dean, and Clinical Dean at Louisiana State Medical School, Baylor College of Medicine, University of Kansas Medical School, Rush University Medical School and University of Texas Health Science Center. He also served as Chief of obstetrics and gynecology at Lyndon Banes Johnson Hospital, Houston, Texas. Currently he volunteers his time as a Clinical Professor of Obstetrics/Gynecology at the University of Houston, Medical school.
Dr. Sebastian Faro retired in 2018 but remained active in lecturing and participated in the Semmelweis Colloquium, which is a forum for teaching residents infectious diseases and providing consultation to practicing physicians caring for obstetrical and gynecologic patients. He is returning to private practice joining his son, Dr. Jonathan Faro, and Dr. Alex Wainwright, where he will see patients only in the office with vulvovaginal disease (benign vulva diseases, various causes of vaginitis), hidradenitis suppurativa, urinary tract infections (acute and chronic), sexually transmitted infections, skin infections, and perform annual gynecologic examinations. Patients requiring surgery/hospitalization will be referred to Dr. Jonathan Faro and Dr. Alex Wainwright. Patient’s requiring pain medication will be referred to an outside pain specialist.
